Corrieri 10TT

The Corrieri Clasic 10 mile TT was held on Sunday 20 March at Cambusbarron. This was the first 10 mile TT of the season and is a popular opening event with almost 100 riders. Last year the club had several riders but this year I was the only club member riding.  I was number 92 which wasn't great as I prefer to be off early but on the bright side it gave me an extra hour in bed. Scanning through the names either side of me I knew I'd have no chance of catching anyone and would certainly be caught pretty early.

The weather wasn't great as I left home but by the time I reached Stirling the rain had disappeared and the strong wind had eased, at least it wasn't snowing like the previous week which had ruined my preparations.

After a good warm up I made my way to the start and was soon on my way, my plan was to try to get to the turn without being caught. Shortly after starting the wind became noticeable and you had to make some effort to keep a straight line. As I was approaching the turn I thought I'd achieved my goal of not being caught when I heard  the familiar rumble as number 93 passed. As I turned I could see another rider approaching so I dug in and thought I'd see how long I could hold out for, seconds later my bike was rocked as a rider flashed by. I looked up to see number 95, Arthur Doyle, the speed was difficult to comprehend. Seconds later he was out of sight. My spirits (and speed) fell, it seem a long way to the finish but with the end in sight I gave it one final push. The checked flag was a welcome sight,  I'd forgotten how how difficult this was.

Arthur Doyle won with a an fantastic time of 20.31, 42 second ahead of Jim Cusick. My time was 25.45, plenty room for improvement but still 45seconds faster than last year (perhaps the Wednesday nights do make a difference).
